Lynn Ingersoll Honored

Last week our own church member, Lynn Ingersoll received the Muriel Gilman Family Advocacy Award from Children & Families First for her “outstanding contribution to the well-being of Delaware's children.” The award is a tribute to Ms. Gilman in recognition of her outstanding community service. She was the first woman professional at the United Way of Delaware, retiring as Executive Vice-President. Recognized with many awards for leadership, vision, promotion of volunteerism and service to our community, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Delaware Women in 2005.

Lynn very actively advocated for the “Ready by 21” legislation which extends court jurisdiction, financial and other support to youth exiting foster care to their 21st birthday instead of 18th. And to Lynn’s great pleasure, that legislation passed!

First U is honored to have Lynn as a member and are grateful for her contribution in support of the ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) social justice program here at church. You, too, can support ILYA by contributing to the Holiday Giving project now. Stop by the Christmas tree table at coffee hour and Barbara Perry and her helpers will happily help you.

Next week’s eNews… excerpts from Lynn’s acceptance speech at the award ceremony.
