Inspired to Act Stewardship Testimonial

The Stewardship theme this year is Inspired to ACT!

I have been coming to First U Wilmington for 34 years to be inspired to live my life in a UU way. For me, our mission, vision and values are not just relevant within these walls. They are the framework for my life. They connect me and all of us to a collective voice that we hunger to make heard in our troubled world. Over the years, I have been inspired by many things UU, and it keeps getting better. Most of all, I am inspired by you – the members of this congregation – with whom I have the privilege to work, learn and worship.

For me and perhaps for you too, inspiration is not optional. It’s absolutely required to make progress in life. It’s the fuel our minds and spirits require. It’s not unlike putting gas in our cars, or having coffee in the morning. Luckily, there are many ways to be inspired in our denomination. Sunday worship, of course; our education programs, through Standing on the Side of Love and all our social justice work; through volunteer service, through Cluster celebrations and at our denomination’s annual General Assembly. And did you know, there’s even an app for UU inspiration? Go to itunes and download Illuminations, free from the UUA.

We are facing into a time of change. Let’s be inspired to act by giving generously to keep our First UU community vibrant and growing. I am pleased to be able to double my pledge this year. Please join me by doing all that you are able. We must fuel our faith if it is to fuel us – so we can make a difference in the world. Let’s stand together and put our financial gifts into this church and this denomination. We are called to serve a greater good that stretches far beyond these walls, and which I find captured in these words from the UUA’s website…

We Unitarian Universalists (UUs) envision a life filled with compassion for all, shared in beloved community, and lived in a just world. We commit ourselves to pursuing this vision faithfully, passionately, and humbly. We invite all who share our vision to join us in this spiritual journey.

We have much work to do. Let’s be Inspired to ACT

On the four Sundays before Commitment Sunday (February 22), members of our church community are sharing how First Unitarian Church inspires them. They are putting their inspiration into action and pledging their generous financial support to enhance what they value.  Watch for the printed texts in the E-News on Friday following each testimonial.
