It’s been a very active season for ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) supporting young people aging out of foster care at 18 years old. The ACME Bonus stamps project managed by Carolyn Gibson collected enough stamps for 18 Cuisinart pots/pans. These will be donated to young people setting up housekeeping for the first time.
The furniture and household goods project managed by J Harry Feldman has had a very active season. It seems the word is getting out and more donations have been coming in. The latest was a nice set of bedspreads and pillows and very nice lamps. Other donations that we know of included a coffee maker, kitchen utensils, bath linens, baby items including a lamp and wall hangings. J Harry also delivered a donated rocking chair to a young woman expecting a baby very shortly. He reported that the soon-to-be parents (both working full time) were very surprised and grateful.
Watch for more news on the supportive grants that ILYA provides in next week’s E-News. In the meantime, spread the word that ILYA depends on all members, friends and families of First U to make this an ongoing success. Please contact Betty Wier, Lois Morris or J Harry for more information or assistance making donations.
