It’s getting to be graduation time and at First UU that means backpacks for our young graduates aging out of foster care. Every year ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults – one of our social justice projects) prepares backpacks filled with useful items to help celebrate the huge accomplishment these young people have made. They have overcome the huge challenges that being in foster care presents, gone on to succeed in building an educational foundation to launch into their adult life.
You can send a strong message of congratulations and encouragement for continued success by supporting this graduation project. We need donors to help buy backpacks and the “stuffin’s” to fill them. Cash, checks, sets of new towels (bath, hand & washcloth in neutral colors), folding mesh hampers and other items are needed and welcomed. Please check with Barbara Perry and her team at the social justice table in the parish hall after every Sunday service in May for detailed requirements. The ILYA team and the young people we support thank you!
