We're getting down to the wire for the ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) Graduation Backpack and Pizza Party Project. But we're not quite there yet. One item we put in every backpack is a gift card for $25 from the Target store. At Target, the young grads have a broad selection to choose from… food, household items, clothing, toiletries, and other supplies they might need as they set up housekeeping for the first time.
How can this be a win-win? If you purchase your gift card as a Booster Card during coffee hour on Sunday, the church benefits as well as the young people aging out of foster care. You can pay with cash, check or credit card at the Booster table and turn right around to the Social Justice table and give your purchase to Barbara Perry or one of her wonderful volunteers for inclusion in the backpack for the graduates.
If $25 is a little steep for your budget right now, please give whatever you can to Barbara and she'll combine the donations to purchase the gift cards via the Booster Program. Please be part of the win-win knowing you're making a real difference in the life of a young person aging out of foster care and for First UU, too.
