Graduation Party Success

Barbara Perry and her team pulled off another successful ILYA (Independently Living for Young Adults) party for graduates aging out of foster care. She reported, “It was wonderful seeing the former grads so happy to see one another again and to hear about how nice it was to receive college care packages. The new grads really liked the back packs we gave them.” The improved economy has allowed more grads to get jobs but unfortunately that meant some grads couldn't attend the party (their backpacks were delivered so they were still acknowledged). Despite the lower numbers, there was spirited conversation once a round-robin of introductions broke the ice and everyone enjoyed the comradery.

Barbara went on to say, “The out pouring of support from our congregation was heartwarming.” She reported that all 22 Target gift cards given the grads came from the Booster Card program which helps the church. Macy's also supported our program by providing a discount on the towel sets we purchased. So, once again, Barbara's team did a great job of letting the graduates know that we honored their hard work and tenacity in achieving graduation… a milestone that gives them a great foundation for ongoing success.
