The Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow – July 6 Meeting

The June meeting of the Coalition was held at First U Wilmington and featured Joyce Bembry, a member of the Coalition who spoke on Pardons & Expungements.   As a member of the Parole Board, Joyce explained the complexities of the system including the fact that petitioners must pay fees at each step, which acts as a deterrent.  Many are eligible but few pardons are granted.  Medard Gabriel from Pacem in Terris also conducted a visioning activity to help achieve a Culture of Peace.

The Forum Committee is seeking additional sponsors and partners for the conference Hope, Opportunity and Racism: Breaking the Poverty to Prison Connection planned for November 14 at the Chase Center in Wilmington.  Please plan to attend!

Summer meetings will feature films about the New Jim Crow.  The next meeting will be Monday, July 6 at 6:00 pm.   Please consider joining us. You may also contact Rev. Maiorano paulamaiorano32@gmail.com or Joan Priest at 610-869-9335 or joan@jpduua.org to learn more.
