School Is Starting

This time of year there's a lot of activity for most young people heading back to school. And that's true for the young people who have aged out of foster care and are continuing their education. Some may be headed to college, others to technical school but wherever they're going, it can be really scary and overwhelming, particularly that first semester.
That's where ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) comes in. Once again we're looking for volunteers to send these hard-working students college care packages. These are packages sent every month or two to let them know someone's thinking about them and cares about how they are doing. It's to offer encouragement as they start a new phase in life or face a challenging exam. It's to send some cheer around holiday times and help keep up the energy level when studying for finals.
Packages can contain fun extras or very basic needs depending on what the young person's situation is. Think about what you would send your child if they were away at school. If you can help out, please see Betty Wier and Sue Wilson at the social justice table in the parish hall during coffee hour or by email, Their email addresses are and Thanks for considering helping these young people as they take a big step toward a good future!
