Please Sign the Petition to Congress to Protect and Strengthen the Clean Power Plan – on September 13 at the Ingathering Sunday Coffee Hour. On August 3, President Obama and the EPA announced the Clean Power Plan Final Rule – an historic step to reduce carbon emissions from U.S. power plants and make a real difference in reducing climate change.
The Clean Power Plan will reduce carbon pollution from power plants, the nation’s largest source of carbon dioxide, while maintaining energy reliability and affordability. It will also reduce emissions of black soot and other chemicals that are damaging to human health, while promoting energy efficiency and a transition to clean renewable energy sources like the wind and sun.
We anticipate opposition from states – like Wyoming, Kentucky and West Virginia – that mine a lot of coal, the dirtiest source of power plant energy. They are expected to mount legal challenges to the Clean Power Plan and may even try to defund the EPA. States like ours that are particularly vulnerable to sea level rise and coastal storms need to stand up for a clean energy future.
