Last Sunday ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) learned that the daughters of one of our First U members who recently passed away asked that donations be made to ILYA in lieu of flowers. Their mother had supported ILYA and they wanted her legacy of helping young people aging out of foster care to carry on. And carry on, it will!
Sizeable donations allow ILYA to make the supportive grants we do. A recent grant was made for books to a college senior who has not only excelled in her course work but also has a job waiting for her at Price Waterhouse when she graduates. ILYA was able to provide funding because First U members and friends had “filled the piggy bank”.
Maybe you have a special occasion coming up and would like to designate ILYA as a recipient of good wishes rather than receiving gifts – we’ve had birthday donations like that. Checks should be made out to “First Unitarian Church” with “ILYA” on the memo line and mailed in or placed in the offering basket on Sunday. Receipts are available for anyone who requests one. We protect donors’ confidentiality but sincerely thank those supporters for helping to make a huge difference in these young lives.
