Please Support “Second Chances” To Help Formerly Incarcerated People
Sunday, November 8, our collection plate offering will benefit the work of Second Chances (formerly A Center for Relational Living) to help formerly incarcerated people to reenter society and avoid recidivism. Second Chances mentors individuals coming out of prison, coaching them on job skills, and helping them learn basic computer skills required to complete online applications. We search for job opportunities in the community and recommend clients for interviews. We provide bus transportation and rides to interviews, babysitting, flagger training and equipment, specialized work clothes and shoes, cell phones, and even a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card enabling one of our participants to work at the port of Wilmington. Our own community minister, Rev. Paula Maiorano, serves as Founder and Board Chair, and other members of our congregation also volunteer and support their work. Our gifts will help to reduce the pattern of recidivism that plagues Delaware and will help save taxpayers many thousands of dollars. For more information about Second Chances, please contact: Rev. Paula Maiorano, 302-428-3850 or Joan Priest at 610-869-9335.
