There's an office in Wilmington that has traditionally taken two ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) wish lists to provide holiday gifts to young people aging out of foster care. They have particularly enjoyed taking lists that include wishes for young children and have beautifully fulfilled them. Yes, some of these young people have children of their own and are working hard to give their children a happier childhood than they experienced and we can help.
Do you work at an office or business that would be willing to give to someone less fortunate this holiday? Working together to fulfill these wishes gives a group a sense of shared satisfaction beyond that of the individuals. It strengthens the sense of pride that the organization is giving back to the community and speaks loudly the values of the organization – that it cares about others beyond just the clients or customers with which it does business.
Because we need time to get the gifts ready for delivery, we have only 2 weeks left to make it happen. Please contact Barbara Perry or Carolyn Gibson to take a list and say “Our office/business cares!” It's a great way to express thanks for all that we are blessed with – a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving!
