12:00 Noon, Sunday, May 22, in the sanctuary
First Unitarian will be erecting two signs in support of the Black Lives Matter movement on church property adjacent to Route 202 as part of a special Memorial Day service on Sunday, May 29. Standing on the Side of Love TShirts will be available for purchase after the May 22nd service in the Sanctuary. Members are encouraged to wear the shirts as we dedicate our Black Lives Matter Sign on Route 202 as part of the service on May 29, 2016. Last winter, following endorsement of the movement by the UUA General Assembly and our Board of Trustees, about 30 church members who participated in workshops on “Being White in the Black Lives Matter Movement” agreed that a public profession of our congregation's support for Black Lives was an appropriate next step. Members are encouraged to wear their Standing of the Side of Love Shirts so we can have a distinctive presence as we dedicate our Black Lives Matter banner on May 29.2016.
You can learn more about our Black Lives Matter initiative and raise your questions and concerns at two open meetings in May. Reverend Roberta and church members who completed the winter workshops will host the meeting. To read the UUA resolution and address some common misconceptions about Black Lives Matter, click here.
