All the stores have back to school merchandise prominently displayed and back to school sales are advertised repeatedly. We are so happy to know that many of the young people who have aged out of foster care this past Spring are going on to further education. ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) will once again be asking for volunteers to send “Student Care Packages” 5 times during the school year. These packages of snacks and small items young people enjoy give a real boost to a student who is working hard with studies while being out on their own.
Each Sunday in September, Sue Wilson and others will be in the Parish Hall to answer questions and register volunteers to support a student this way. They'll have suggestions of things to send to students and will explain how the process works.
Please give some thought to the possibility of taking a student as your care package recipient. If you aren't already a package sender, please see the ILYA folks in the Parish Hall during September. And best of luck to all students starting off a new year of learning and fun.
