Correcting A Misunderstanding – ILYA Furniture Donations

A misunderstanding has recently come to our attention that upholstered furniture was not accepted as a donation for ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) with the Catholic Charities Thrift Shop.  We're grateful to have this brought to our attention as gently used, clean upholstered furniture is definitely needed by our young people aging out of foster care.
The thrift store will only take sofa beds that are 3 years old or less however, everything else including mattresses (again gently used and clean – the thrift store sanitizes them) are always a blessing. Cooking equipment/implements and dinnerware (including flatware, glassware and serving pieces) are much needed as these young people set up housekeeping for the first time.
If you know someone who is downsizing or getting rid of household goods/furniture, let them know. Either drop the donation off at the thrift store at 1320 E. 23rd St., Wilmington, DE or for large items or a large amount of small items, call the thrift store at 302-764-2717 to arrange for pick-up. Either way, be sure to use the code “First UU” (have them put it on the receipt) so the ILYA program gets credit for it. Great thanks to J Harry Feldman for managing this ILYA project so well for many years!
