For 11 years now, First Unitarian members and friends have responded generously to ILYA's (Independent Living for Young Adults) appeal to fulfill wish lists at holiday time. And again this year we had a wonderful response, according to Carolyn Gibson (this year's project manager). Along with help from Barbara Perry (project manager emeritus) and other team members and helpers, she signed up volunteers that are providing gifts for 20 young people who have aged out of foster care. These young people will now not only have some cheer for the holidays but will also take the knowledge that people care about them on throughout the year. We've heard from past recipients that receiving the gifts gives them a real boost when they have to work through tough times as they build independent lives at such young ages. The young people and the ILYA team thank you for supporting the Holiday Giving project in such a wonderful way!
