Refugee Project

Today because of violence and persecution, more than 60 million people have been forced to flee their homes – the highest number since WWII. As part of our commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive nation, faith-based communities throughout New Castle County are partnering with Jewish Family Services to welcome families seeking freedom from persecution and a new beginning.

Generous volunteers from our congregation have offered their time and talents to serve on the Refugee Project Team but we need your help. Our role is to find and furnish an apartment and help orient the family to their new community.

Our needs:  affordable rental housing, furniture, lamps and bedding, kitchen equipment – everything needed to set up housekeeping.
Second-hand furnishings in good condition are welcome! We also accept money to purchase needed items.

If you know of available rentals or if you can help with a donation of items, money or your time, please contact: Jan and Carol at refugeeproject@firstuuwilm.org.
