We are pleased to announce that First U has been designated a Sexually Safer Congregation by the Religious Institute. This means that our leadership has made a commitment to sexual safety that involved the board, staff, parents, volunteers and members. A sexually healthy and responsible congregation is free from sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual misconduct. We created explicit policies and procedures to keep children, youth, and vulnerable adults safe from abuse and harassment; strong codes of conduct for religious professionals, and safeguards for congregants who have been accused or convicted of sexual offences. We will proudly display the Sexually Healthy Best Practices seal so that people know about our commitment to sexual health. Special thanks to Catherine Williamson, Donna Gonzalez, Ruth Fleury-Steiner and Suzanne Shahan for their work on this project.
