A Taste of Vespers: Sunday, August 6th

On Sunday morning, August 6th, First Unitarian’s new Vespers Team will lead the congregation in a Vespers service to give you a taste of this new-to-us yet ancient style of worship. We will come together for a special time of meditation, singing, chanting, and finding that deep peace within ourselves that has long been the source of all that is spiritual in human history.

Ongoing Vespers services will be held monthly on Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:00 p.m., beginning Sept 6th.

Our Vespers services will be based on the Taizé style of worship which features a darkened room filled with candlelight, congregants gathered for meditation, silence, a candle-lighting ritual, and the singing of short chants and rounds repetitively and meditatively. Many Unitarian Universalist churches offer a week night Vespers Service as an introspective, meditative opportunity to calm our minds and hearts and nourish our spirits.

The Vespers Team welcomes additional team members and musicians to participate in creating these evening services. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Team Lead Cindy Cohen at cindyscohen@comcast.net.
