Welcoming a New Life

Although we do not have an organizer for Baby Showers at the moment, we are continuing to collect donations to help support expectant mothers. Here is an article from 2018 with a report on one of our baby showers. We hope that we will be able to find a new organizer in the near future.

Jan 2018:

Last week, ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) hosted a baby shower for a young family in need. The parents to be (the mom having aged out of foster care) were warmly welcomed by ILYA team members and other church members. Some family members and friends of the couple also joined in the festivities and a lovely connection was made. Games were played that created a warm and fun filled atmosphere and sharing food (donated by non-church members) nourished spirits as well as bodies.

First UU members donated some beautiful handmade items and other gifts and many donations also came from the broader community. Once again, the North Wilmington Moms Facebook Page Group pulled out the stops to see that this young family was starting off well prepared for the arrival of their baby.
While none of us like to think of a child being brought into the world when sufficient resources are not in place, being able to help out when that does happen is a blessing to us all. We were able to create an environment of acceptance, love and support in the name of First UU. Experiencing the fellowship that was present reinforced how good this was to do. The ILYA team thanks everyone who helped make this such a glowing success.
