You may remember that in January 2017, ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults) gave a baby shower to a young woman who was expecting a baby in March. We are so happy to report what a positive impact this has had on the young Mom’s life.
The baby shower allowed Mom and baby to have a good start in their new apartment. Unfortunately, transportation became a problem but ILYA was able to help with a car loan which is currently being paid off. Things were a little rocky for a while as the young mom found her footing juggling parenting, employment, further education and child care demands. Happily, today she’s in a better apartment (safer, much more convenient location and very pretty) and is enrolled in the Dawn Institute’s Esthetician program and will graduate with a license to practice early in 2019.
The toddler is attending day care where she is already learning her ABCs and fits right in with the 4 other children she’s with. Mom is also working 20 hrs. a week at a local food bank managing a team of volunteers very successfully. At her 20th birthday celebration this weekend, she said she finally feels like everything is going to be ok… “I know we’re going to make it and be just fine. Thank you for all your help!”
