Building on the pioneering work of Rev. Paula Maiorano, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Livingston from Mother African Union Church, and IMAC, the Interfaith Ministers Action Council, our church has joined the vanguard to show that black lives matter. Our Coalition to Dismantle the New Jim Crow sponsors study groups, monthly programs, and forums to advocate for solutions to racial discrimination and institutional policies and systems that place minorities and members of impoverished communities at a disadvantage. Our first forum was held at our church and featured a panel of all the African American judges in Delaware and filled the sanctuary; two subsequent forums held at venues with larger capacity attracted national speakers and brought members of the community together to focus on problems and work toward solutions. Members of the Coalition including Rev. Paula Maiorano and Rev. Dr. Richard Speck serve on the Board and help plan activities. The Coalition meets monthly in local churches including First Unitarian, Mother African Union Church, Newark UU Fellowship, and Hanover Presbyterian. Please help us continue this vital work with your contribution to our special collection on January 20, 2019.
