Environmental Justice Field Trip

Friday, May 17 or Saturday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m.
To the Planting Hope Urban Farm at the Herman Holloway Campus of the Delaware Department of Health and Social Service. (1901 N. Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720) A guided tour of the Spiral Cemetery, a Bee Pasture, the Planting Hope Apiary, and the Bright Spots Market Garden will be featured by Faith B. Kuehn, Ph.D, Entomologist and Planting Hope Administrator. She led the Spiral Cemetery renovation.
Nurturing people and plants are the goal of Planting Hope. Approximately 776 people were buried in this Spiral Cemetery between 1891 and 1983. This Potter’s field cemetery was established for burial of Delaware State Hospital patients without known family or means. The graves now have numbered granite markers and are arranged in a spiral pattern.
We will car pool from the back parking lot of the church for this important place. Let us know which day is preferable to you-May 17 or 18, and phone or send an email that you would like to attend. (debhaskell@outlook.com, or 610-388-1923) No charge, except that you might like to purchase some flowers or vegetables from the Bright Spots Garden at the end of the tour.
