From September to October in New Castle County, multiple Delaware organizations will hold a dozen events promoting a change to a healthy lifestyle. These events include a Vegan Restaurant Week in Wilmington in early October, a series of 3 documentaries, a 15-day health challenge. Most are free and many offer free food. Three of the events are part of the 6th annual Peace Week Delaware (September 21-29). Two churches and a synagogue are joining to host over half of the events, exploring the moral and environmental impact of our current food system. Doctors are getting involved too. On September 19, the Medical Society of Delaware will host Dr. Neal Barnard, a national health speaker and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). PCRM and Dr. Barnard will return on September 21 (SOLD OUT) to the First Unitarian Church of Wilmington, for Kickstart Your Health Wilmington. Later that day, Wilmington’s Drs. Vinny and Chetana Kripalu will speak at the second annual VegFest Wilmington, at Glasgow Park. What these events all share in common is promotion of a plant based diet for optimal health of our bodies, the community, our environment, and the planet.
From October 5-19, Progressive Health of Delaware will lead the free Health Challenge Delaware, helping participants make healthy changes in their diet, sleep, and exercise. More information is available here.
