We’ve all seen the pictures of the devastation Hurricane Dorian caused on the Abaco and Grand Bahama islands in the Bahamas. The numbers of those left homeless and the death toll continue to mount even as getting accurate information on conditions has been a challenge.
But, as UUSC President & CEO Mary Katherine Morn writes, “Here’s what we know for sure-the most vulnerable to nature’s wrath have suffered a devastating blow, and people need our help.” The disaster has shown the incredible economic disparity in the Bahamas.
The response of our Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, as always, is unique. UUSC partners with local groups to conduct an assessment of the greatest threats that survivors face, seeking out those who are left out of traditional relief efforts. UUSC also considers long-term needs, supporting those who are marginalized long after the media’s attention has gone.
You can make a difference for those most likely to fall through the cracks of traditional rescue and relief efforts by donating to UUSC Hurricane Dorian Crisis Response at www.uusc.org .
