February Green Challenge – Bring Your Reusable Bags Shopping!

Our Environmental Justice Task Force challenge for February is to get in the habit of bringing your own reusable bag when you go shopping. The average American family takes home almost 1,500 plastic shopping bags a year and 100,000 marine animals are killed by plastic bags annually. How can you get in the habit of bringing your own bags? First, keep a supply of reusable bags in your car. Get them out every time you shop. Forgot your bag? Get the negative feedback to go back out to your car and get your bags. After you do this a few times, you will make a new “green” habit. Let’s try to make the rest of February plastic bag free!

Our sewing event went great! We had about 30 people show up and made over 200 reusable bags! About half who attended were church members, the other half from the community. What a great way to help the environment and our local community!! Click here to see pictures of the fun event
