Pastoral Care Announcement: Bella Gier

With sadness we share that long-time First Unitarian member, Bella Gier, died last week at the age of 85. Bella was passionate about music and she and her husband, Ted, enjoyed singing together in our choir.

Bella earned her Bachelor degree in Nursing from University of Delaware and her Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from University of Pennsylvania. She spent her career working in all aspects of the nursing profession throughout the Delaware and Pennsylvania area. She lived in Wilmington DE, Chadds Ford Pa, and at Jenner’s Pond in West Grove in her retirement.

In retirement, Bella traveled throughout the world and volunteered in her local community. An avid gardener, her favorite place to volunteer was Longwood Gardens.

Bella struggled with Alzheimer’s disease later in life and in the past weeks developed a condition that caused her death.

Bella was predeceased by her husband Thurman Gier, son Lonny Cescon, her parents Francis and Mabel Meinhart and her four siblings, Herman, Larue, Shirley and Nancy. Bella is survived by her daughter Lynne (Thom), son Dr. Terrence Cescon (Cathy), daughters in law Yvonne Cescon and Erin Reed Carl and 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. We hold them all with care and concern as they grieve her death.  A memorial service will not be immediately planned but service information will be shared as soon as it becomes available.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl.17 Chicago, IL 50501 or online in Bella’s name.
