With sadness, we share the news that Robert Collat died on September 4, 2020 at the age of 98. Born in Savannah, Georgia, Bob studied chemistry, obtained a PhD in the subject, and worked for DuPont from 1951 to 1981. Upon retirement he operated an income tax consultancy for 22 years. He was a veteran having served in the Army during World War II.
Robert supported the school system having served as president of the Silverside School PTA and served on the State PTA Board as Parliamentarian.
In 1952, Robert and Jean married and had two children. Jean was an opera singer and Robert directed several operas at Brecks Mill and later served on the Board of OperaDelaware. He also taught opera courses at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
We extend our care and concern to Robert and Jean’s son, Donald S. Collat (and his wife, Gayle); daughter, Jill L. Collat; granddaughter, Ava Collat; and several nieces and nephews. Online memorial service information will be shared as it becomes available.
We are grateful for all the ways he brightened the lives of others through his volunteerism, love for music, his work, and his love for and dedication to family and friends.
