With sadness, we remember Karel Toll who died on Sept 27 at the age of 96. Karel was born and raised in NJ. He served in the Navy during World War II, and went on to have a career with DuPont for 50 years. Karel and Doris (who died two years ago) were married just shy of 70 years. They had four children together: Amy Toll Redman, Christine Toll, Peter Toll, and Michael Toll. And they had six grandchildren. He had two sisters who are alive today: Barbara Stille and Jean Toll.
Karel was a deeply committed member and lay leader not only of this church for many years, but of the UUA. Indeed, he embodied our faith every day to become the Unitarian Universalist that we all aspire to be. His leadership during the early nineties was critical in the expansion of our building. He pioneered the Growth Committee with his close friend and church member, Dave Sheppard (who died this summer) which helped to start up and to sustain other needed Unitarian Universalist congregations in nearby areas
Karel was calm. He was a deep thinker, with a great sense of humor. He loved music and was an avid bird watcher and member of the Audubon Society. He was part of the bird sightings taken annually to keep track of the bird population.
We extend our care and concern to his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and to his sisters, especially to Jean who is a member of our First Unitarian community.
