Help Wanted: Compassionate Ushers for Memorial Services

Are you looking for a new way to contribute to church life? Serving as a Compassionate Usher is a meaningful way to help our grieving families during the pandemic building closure.
Although most of our memorial services have been held by Zoom, we occasionally have small in-person memorial services in the Sanctuary. Attendance is small, not more than a dozen people. We need a few additional folks to act as ushers. If you volunteer, your name would be added to a list of Compassionate Ushers, and we would contact you if a family requested an in-person memorial service.

The role of the Compassionate Usher is focused on welcoming as well as reminding service attendees to wear a mask, wash their hands and maintain appropriate social distancing. We have disposable masks for those who forget, and hand sanitizer stations are available as well. At the end of the service, we no longer allow a receiving line, and we ask attendees to exit the building once the service is complete. Compassionate Ushers can help facilitate this process.
If you are interested, please email our Business Manager, Marina VanRenssen, at marina@firstuuwilm.org. Memorial services may be held on weekdays or on weekends, so please include any scheduling limitations you may have. Thank you!
