Unfortunately today’s first Friday walk has been canceled due to icy conditions from the overnight snow.
LWVNCC President Dick Johnson sent the notification this morning, expressing his disappointment. If you are on the LWV mailing list you’ll also get an email notification from the League office shortly.
March for Justice, Peace, and Voting Rights
Join the First U Human Rights Task Force and our partners, the League of Women Voters, on this march in Wilmington for justice, peace, and voting rights!
WHEN: First Fridays of each month – starting THIS FRIDAY, January 7 at 5:30 p.m.
START: At First & Central Presbyterian Church, 1101 N. Market Street, Rodney Square, in Wilmington DE
END: The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew (SSAM)
at 719 N. Shipley Street, Wilmington DE
The walk begins at 5:30 p.m. at First & Central and ends at SSAM. We will walk in silence to promote an end to racial and social injustice. Park on the street near First & Central and gather on the front steps of the church on the Market Street side of the building. If you can’t make it tonight – put it in your calendar for February 4, March 4, April 1, and every first Friday of the month onward.
As UUs we place high value on the right to vote. Our 5th UU Principle states: “We covenant to affirm and promote the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.” At this moment in history, our country is facing an unprecedented challenge to voting rights. We are asking Senators Carper and Coons to support the Freedom to Vote and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to set national standards for safe and free voting. Come on out and march for democracy!
