Lynne Twist has written, “Money is a current, a carrier, a conduit for our intentions.”
Our contributions reflect our intentions, our values. Our giving shows what is important to us. You know why First Unitarian Church is important to you. Your contributions express why you value Unitarian Universalism and what you value at First U.
This year we are considering how Giving with Intention makes a difference. First U has made a difference over and over during its history. First U was a driving force in getting rid of red-lining in Wilmington, a practice which prevented Black people from living in white neighborhoods. First U was the organizing force behind the group which worked to ensure that busing to integrate schools in New Castle County was peaceful, in contrast to the violence experienced across the U.S. First U was a prime mover leading to establishment of exit money for released prisoners who, before, were set free on the street. And you know the difference First U is making now with Emmanuel Dining Room and ILYA (Independent Living for Young Adults).
Giving with intention supports Unitarian Universalism, a faith that is based, not upon dogma, creeds, or hierarchy, but upon principles from sources such as science, wisdom literature, scriptures, humanist teachings, and life experiences.
As UUs, principles celebrate the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equity and compassion in human relations; acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; a free and responsible search for truth and meaning; the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large; the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; and respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Giving with Intention supports what is most important to you at First U. In the coming weeks, we will highlight what your giving can support as we begin this year’s stewardship campaign.
This year’s Annual Stewardship Campaign at First Unitarian Church is February 6-March 15. The Board has determined that we need $490,000 to support Church programs and operations. As we move through this time, we invite you to consider how you can give with intention.
You can find links to pledge online, or to print a paper form, at First UU Wilmington – “Giving with Intention” – Annual Campaign for Stewardship. Thank you for your support!
