Fundraising Procedures Update

As we prepare for a new fiscal year and a new church year, the Executive Team updated procedures around fundraising efforts in the church.

When determining whether to approve a fundraising request, we follow a few principles when determining fundraising projects at First Unitarian.

All fundraising done in the name of the First Unitarian Church should be guided by the Church’s Ends and Executive Limitations as set forth in the Board Policies document, which are available in the Church Office or at our web site, on the Board of Trustees page.

It is expected that First Unitarian’s major fundraising effort will be the annual Operating Campaign and that church programs will be financed through the resultant pledges of members and friends.
The annual Operating Campaign, also known as the Annual Stewardship Drive, begins in February so no additional fundraising efforts will be approved in the month of February.

In addition to the Annual Operating Campaign, the Executive Team has approved the following ongoing fundraising activities:
Monthly special offerings on the second Sunday of most months. Schedule is approved each June for the upcoming fiscal year:
Congregants can submit nominations each May for the monthly special offering schedule for the upcoming fiscal year (July -June)
The following special offerings are pre-approved:
Emmanuel Dining Room
ILYA
UUSC
Lutheran Community Services
YWCA of Wilmington
UUSC coffee & related product sales which also supply the church with coffee and tea supplies
Counterpoint – fall fundraising for special music
Bi-annual Auction – date set by Executive Team
ILYA Holiday and Backpacks – In November and June

The Executive Team may authorize a limited number of additional fundraising activities targeted specifically towards fulfilling the mission of the church. Please click here to access the fundraising request form and to learn more about this process.
