In Deepest Sympathy; Rev. Kathryn D. Thomas Celebration of Life Service Saturday, April 22, 2023

Rev. Kathie Davis Thomas died peacefully on October 14, 2022. After being a parishioner at the First Unitarian Church in Wilmington since childhood, she also served as a religious educator at the church. After receiving her Masters of Divinity from Lancaster Theological School, Rev. Thomas was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister by First Unitarian Church of Wilmington on April 1996. She served several congregations as an interim minister from 1998-2003 in Hartford County, Maryland, Cedar Lane in Bethesda, Maine Line in Devon, Pennsylvania and in Plainfield, New Jersey.

Among other wonderful abilities, her parishioners especially appreciated the stories she shared with them and their children. One of Rev. Kathie’s great joys was officiating at weddings. Through interviews with perspective brides and grooms, she gathered wonderful insights into their relationships that she built into every service.

In addition to her ministry, Kathie had several earlier careers. She taught Biology at the High School level for several years, while living in Cherry Point, North Carolina and Bethesda, Maryland. She and a friend had a successful flower arranging business called La Coccinelle. Later, she and another friend had a card designing business. Her exquisite artwork expressed outwardly the gift of love for others. Many of the cards she designed she sent to the families of lost war heroes during her daughter’s tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Kathie was the daughter of Grace L. Davis and William Davis, who preceded her in death. She met the love of her life, while still at Alexis I. duPont High School. She and Roger B. Thomas, Jr, “Tom,” were married in June 1966. They had 31 wonderful years together. Tom died in 2003. Kathie is survived by 2 daughters – Dr. Karin E. Thomas, MD, Dr. Kristin T. Nagy, Kristin’s husband Dan and daughter “Ellie.”
