As we move into mid-Winter, the First UU Music Committee is making plans to fill the sanctuary with joyous sounds in 2023. Working together to support the goals of Music Director Kathy Harris, the Committee includes Sarah Barlow, Cindy Cohen, Pam Finkelman, Rebecca Fisher, Seth Hammonds, Jan Shay and Richard Speck.
Kathy has welcomed the enthusiasm of Sarah Barlow and Pam Finkelman as they teach songs to our First UU children during their worship time on Sunday mornings. The young singers are currently rehearsing This Little Light of Mine and will perform it in the sanctuary this Sunday, February 12! Anyone who would like to help build our children’s music program is encouraged to contact Kathy.
Recent E-news and this website has included an online musical instrument survey. Who has a clarinet gathering dust in the closet or a young person at home who is making progress on a string instrument? We want to know and perhaps there is a First UU band or orchestra in our future? Making music is a part of spiritual practice for so many and your instrument can enhance worship for others.
Our 2022-2023 concert series is in full-swing and we urge you to save these dates, with more to come:
February 26 at 3 pm The DuPont Diversity Choir/HildaMan Choir will sing under the direction of Reverend Kevin Benjamin
March 29 enjoy “Global Warning” featuring celebrated chamber group Palisades Virtuosi.
In the meantime, we hope you will come to church or join in online on YouTube to hear our choirs, Children’s, Women’s and First U Choir, brighten your Sunday mornings. Soon to be sung are songs about love, Good News, bridges and a bird that sings even though the branch he landed on is giving way….listen to find out what happens!
The First UU Music Committee wants your involvement —the only question we ask is do you love music and do you want more at First UU? For more information or questions, please contact Kathy Harris at kathy@firstuuwilm.org.
