Sunday, April 9 UUSC Justice Sunday

Special Offering;  An Opportunity to Practice Generosity!

Sunday, April 9 is our Share-the-Plate for UUSC’s Justice Sunday. Justice Sunday this year supports UUSC’s Congregational Accompaniment Project for Asylum-Seekers (CAPAS).

If you have not heard, First Unitarian Church is “officially” a UUSC CAPAS Host Congregation for a family that is seeking asylum. The family, a mother and son from Tanzania, want to seek asylum to stay in America instead of going back to Tanzania. The UUSC CAPAS program provides First U with support for our volunteers, education on the asylum process, and connections with other CAPAS congregations.

The money we raise for this Share-the-Plate, will stay with our local project instead of going to UUSC to support other CAPAS projects. This money will also generate even more money for our First U CAPAS project. UUSC will match up to $5000! If we raise $5000, we will get $5000! All of these funds will support this Tanzanian family to live in our community. The money will pay for rent, utilities, legal fees, translation services, groceries, medical expenses, daily living needs, transportation, personal items, etc., etc.

You can donate to the First U CAPAS project here:

If you can’t contribute money, we also need more volunteers! Our Core Volunteer Team will be available in coffee hour on Sunday, April 9 to tell you about volunteer opportunities and answer your questions. Click here for more information about the Core Volunteer Team and the kinds of tasks we need help with.

Asante sana! Asante sana! Asante sana! Many thanks in Swahili!
