CAPAS CORNER – Celebrating the BIG Things

Our Congregational Accompaniment Project for Asylum Seekers (CAPAS) continues to work with the family from Tanzania. Last week our CAPAS core team, along with the diligence of an experienced attorney, submitted the family’s application for asylum in the United States!! The immediate objective was met to allow the family to live here legally through the long asylum process. We await the official receipt of the application filing.

This milestone would not have been possible without our generous donors and their support in meeting the critical needs of our family. These included the attorney’s fees, housing in a safe neighborhood, food, clothing, utility costs, furniture and more.

Our biggest expense remains housing. Since the mother is not allowed to work until a permit is acquired months from now, we are actively seeking a host family to welcome them into a loving home. This is a significant responsibility, but interested individuals can be assured volunteers will continue to help with transportation, tutoring, liaising with doctors and schools and more as needed. For more information, see the description here.

Our fund-raising continues, and we will be using UU Faithify to find donors outside our church to help defray ongoing legal and medical expenses, household items, clothing, phone costs, etc. Volunteers will continue to help with transportation, supplying English tutoring services, liaising with doctors and school, etc.

We are seeking a Host Family! Please let us know you are interested by filling out this Host Family Interest Form. We will be holding an information session in June to present our host family proposal and answer any questions you may have.

The Faithify Campaign is live! We appreciate your continued financial support, but we also need you to share this link with friends and family. We truly need the help from the wider community to keep this family thriving. Mom can only apply for a work permit once her asylum application has been pending for 150 days. So the commitment continues. Donation link: First U CAPAS Faithify.
