Our beautiful grounds need attention, especially in summer when weeds try to take over our beds. Hiring a contractor to weed and mulch can cost the church a significant amount of money, so we rely on volunteers from the congregation to supplement the work of paid contractors.
Thanks to Nancy Flanagan and her crew of volunteers, we got a start on weed management in the spring. However, the attached picture, taken a few weeks ago, shows how weeds respond to sun and water. But the picture has recently changed! Special thanks go to Mike Morton-Wiedner who stopped by twice last week and made great progress on the Memorial Garden. Do stop and admire his work, especially the professional bed edging.
Unfortunately, the need for weeding continues. Are you able to offer a few hours to weed in the beds around the building or in other areas on the property? Please come by any time. We have tools available – let us know if you need to use our tools and we can make sure you have access to them.
Perhaps you and your children are looking for a volunteer activity you can do together. The family that weeds together grows together!
Thank you in advance. If you do come by to weed, choose a time that is convenient for you. If you need to use our tools, please email Marina at marina@firstuuwilm.org for access information for the garden tool storage area.
