More ILYA Students Starting School this Year… … and ILYA needs more volunteers to help them get started.

DO YOU HAVE SOME EXTRA TIME?

Good news! Our ILYA Student Care Package Project (SCPP) is looking for more volunteers this year! That’s doubly good news, in fact!

More kids aging-out of foster care are inspired to take their next steps to the future by furthering their education. That’s encouraging news, indeed! And right along with it comes another piece of good news.

There will be more opportunities for SCPP volunteers to support these young people as they begin a new school, meet new friends, and undertake new educational challenges.

Do you remember how good it felt to find a package in your mailbox when you started off on your own after high school? Might you have the time, interest and energy to create that good feeling for one of the young students starting out this year?

Each SCPP volunteer connects with a student by sending a ‘care package’

four times throughout the school year — and one more on his/her birthday! Some volunteers have found that pairing with a friend makes their SCPP experience both more creative and more enjoyable!

Orientation sessions in early September will provide more information about the expectations of the program, the needs and characteristics of the youth and the support available to volunteers throughout the project year. We also will give advice on sending packages and answer all your questions.
