Children’s Religious Exploration – Fall Activities

Our children are busy at First Unitarian Church! All of our religious exploration groups created covenants in September. During Children’s Worship we observed the Autumn Equinox and took part in an Apple Communion.

The Chalice Children, newborns – 1st graders spent time this year learning about our symbol, the flaming chalice. They also learned about the Lenni Lenape and made pinch pots with clay like the Lenni Lenape made.

Both the Chalice Children and Seekers (1st – 4th grades) heard the story The Everything Seed which describes the creation of the universe. They considered how love was part of the everything seed which created the universe and is at the center of Unitarian Universalism. The Seekers also explored the Miwok Native American creation story and made cookies for the Emmanuel Dining Room.

The Questers, 5th – 8th graders, learned about hunger and food insecurity. They created and presented the Time for All Ages in October. They’ve made some fun potions and created their own magic wands as we use the Harry Potter books to help us fight bad things in our world, such as hunger. They also made cookies for Emmanuel Dining Room and fed the food insecure in Wilmington on East Front Street with From Our Kitchen. Check out pictures of all the great things we are doing!
