Guest at Your Table – Meet Lidia Palma

Lidia Palma has lived through the challenges and fears that come from being an immigrant to this country. That’s why she is uniquely qualified to understand the concerns of those who have been granted TPS – Temporary Protected Status. TPS is a designation that the Department of Homeland Security can assign to nationals of a particular country when the circumstances there are dangerous enough to warrant temporary leave in the United States – countries like Burma, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Haiti.

As National Coordinator for the National TPS Alliance (NTPSA), Lidia advocates for legislation to preserve fairness, dignity and respect for TPS holders. In a collaboration that goes back several years, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) has provided financial and technical support. She says, “As the National TPS Alliance, we are honored by and grateful for the support of UUSC during these years as they have been accompanying us in our fight for justice for our migrant populations.”

A gift to UUSC through the annual Guest at Your Table giving program will ensure that this work can continue. Your tax-deductible donation can be made online at, or you can send a check in the GAYT envelope you will receive in the mail. Be sure to note that your congregation is First Unitarian Church, Wilmington, DE. A donation of $40 or more makes you a UUSC member and donations of $150 or more will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock.
