Holiday Giving Time is here…

Let’s Make This Year Extra Special!

Indndepenent Living for Young Adults, (ILYA) held the first of four wrapping events for the Holiday Giving Project; it was a great success! Special thanks to First UU Youth Group, The Questers, and many church members dropping by to donate and wrap gifts for youth aging out of foster care. We managed to wrap about 100 gifts, and even got a few greeting cards addressed. We have 300 more gifts to go, so please come join us to help wrap these holiday treats!

Of course, an essential element in making the gift project happen is buying those 400 gifts! The gift basket on the ILYA table held almost $600 last Sunday. Will you help that total grow? As with all other contributions to First U, there are several ways to donate. You can drop your check in the basket — or mail it directly to First U, just be sure to note ILYA Holiday Giving in memo line. You can also donate directly to ILYA by going on the First UU web site and opening the link to ILYA donations.

Our gift package will be on display in the Parish Hall after the service for the next two Sundays, November 19 and 26. Come see the hand knit hats and scarves donated by Jackie Feldman’s knitting group that complement the packages. You’ll be inspired to wrap for sure.

Saturday, December 9 is the Grand Finale for all who contributed joy — in whatever form —to the very special young adults and their families celebrating the holidays on their own this year. From 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m., we will gather in the Parish Hall to put the final ribbons on our 400 gift packages. We will celebrate 100 youth and their 28 children — and all who brought ILYA’s 2023 Holiday Giving Project to life for them.

We invite you to get in the holiday spirit and join us once again in making the holidays special for ILYA’s special ‘kids” in whatever way works best for you.
