The INDEPENDENT LIVING FOR YOUNG ADULTS (ILYA) Leadership Team is so appreciative of all those who responded to the Share-the-Plate collection for ILYA’s year-round projects on Sunday, April 7th, and to those who gathered for the after-church discussion, Life After Foster Care, about the challenges facing youth exiting foster care without family support or guidance. You came, you listened, you asked questions—you showed you care!

For those who still wish to add their contributions, online options are still available and checks made out to “First Unitarian Church of Wilmington” with “ILYA” written in the memo line, can be mailed to the church office, 730 Halstead Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.

A note of thanks also to those who contributed their talent and energy to making ILYA’s Share-the-Plate such a success:

  • Trenee Parker, Director of the Division of Family Services (DFS); Tamara Myles, DFS Manager of Independent Living Services; Independent Living social workers from Children’s Choice, People’s Place, and West End Neighborhood House, for sharing their experiences with young adults aging out of foster care; and the young adults who came with them.
  • Monica Klinke and other ILYA Leadership Team members for providing refreshments.
  • Nancy and Matt Pinson for taking photos.
  • Valerie Noel for creating the flyer.
  • First U Marketing Outreach Team for last week’s great message on our Concord Pike church sign.

REPEAT SUITCASE REQUEST: Many thanks to those who have donated used suitcases and duffel bags in good condition to transport belongings when our young adults need to change residences.  We are told the bags have been received with much pride, excitement, and joy. More are still needed and can be brought to the ILYA table in the parish hall on the third Sunday of the month (this Sunday, April 21st) following the service. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN THE CHURCH OFFICE. Thanks. For questions, email Barbara Crowell,
