Serving Joyfully

“Never do by yourself what six people can do together,” says Erik Walker Wikstrom, in his booklet, Serving with Grace. Volunteering at church is about more than getting things done. Wikstrom suggests that the larger and deeper purpose of church work is to learn about others and ourselves. “It is the relationships that are developed, not the items crossed off the to-do list… it is the journey, not the destination, that matters most”, he says. May your service journey be joyful — filled with connection, learning and growth.

Here at First U Wilmington most of our members are involved in the life of the church beyond attending services on Sundays, while that is also very important. Whether it’s singing in the choir, planting in the spring, creating policies and programs, leading a connection group or hosting a dinner, there are a myriad of ways to be involved. If you are not already serving in a capacity that brings joy to your heart, please consider the many ways your gifts and talents can help our congregation create and sustain this vibrant community.
