The “sermon topic of your choice” at the Auction last Spring was won by a youth who wanted to hear a sermon about our relationship to the lives of animals. In fulfilling that request, we are thrilled to welcome the Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner. She will speak to us about Albert Schweitzer, physician, theologian, musician, and philosopher, and who gave to the world the Reverence for Life Ethic. More than anything his life was his argument. How can we live like he did, with deep reverence for all of life in ways that nurture and save ourselves, as we save the world? We will reflect on what it means to be human in a multi-species world, and how to respond to that understanding with compassion and justice.
Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner is a UU minister and wildlife veterinarian. She serves as a community minister in Multi-species Ministry and Compassionate Communication, affiliated with the Community Unitarian Church at White Plains. In addition, she is the Director of One Earth Conservation and Ministry, where she works as a wildlife veterinarian and human dimension consultant in Latin American avian conservation. Currently she has projects in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Paraguay.
