Sunday, April 8, 2018 – 10:30 a.m. – “Nevertheless They Persisted” – Beverley Baxter & Doyle Dobbins

In the face of a history of repression and a liberator-turned-dictator, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) partners in Nicaragua are persisting in fighting for their human rights.  Doyle & Beverley recently returned from 10 days with the UU College of Social Justice, visiting UUSC Partners in Nicaragua. They will share what they learned from these extraordinary women and men who are challenging repressive cultural and political forces.

Beverley and Doyle have been members of First U since 1973 and supporters of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee for nearly as long.  Beverley served on the UUSC Board in the 1980s and 90s and Doyle is currently the Local UUSC Representative. They traveled to meet with UUSC human-rights partners in Myanmar last year, meeting in secret with the most at-risk partners aiding the Rohingya who are facing genocide by the Burmese military.
